# Interacting with the world

How to interact with the world.

> Written to be handed to your players. It describes the framework's controls, not your server's rules.

## The interact key

**Hold `Left Alt`** and look at something. A crosshair appears in the middle of the screen:

* **dim** — you are not pointing at anything
* **white** — you are pointing at something, but there is nothing you can do with it
* **highlighted** — there is something you can do; a menu appears

Let go to close it.

You can change the binding in **Settings → Key Bindings → FiveM**, alongside every other keybind, and it works on a controller.

## What you can interact with

Almost anything: people, vehicles, doors, objects, and places. What is actually available depends on the server you are on, where you are standing, what you are carrying, and who you are.

## Why an option is not there

Options appear only when they apply. Common reasons one is missing:

* **You are too far away.** Most interactions need you within a couple of metres
* **Something is in the way.** You cannot interact through a wall
* **You are not permitted.** Some interactions belong to a job or a role
* **You do not have what it needs.** Some need an item you are carrying

## Why an option did nothing

The menu is drawn by your game; whether an action is allowed is decided by the server. Occasionally they disagree — you moved away as you clicked, or something changed between seeing the option and choosing it.

If it keeps happening, tell your server's staff. It is more likely a bug than a rule.

## If you get stuck

If an interface has taken your cursor and will not give it back, **reconnecting always fixes it**. That is a bug — please report it, with what you were doing at the time.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.nxcframework.net/nexus-core-docs/for-players/interacting.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
